4th Grade Project

Post by elazarine »

My fourth grade class is practicing writing well-defined questions in science. One of the questions that they would like more information on, is the creation of the universe. We know this is a very controversial topic in science, but any insight or response would make them very happy.

Sincerely, 4th grade science - Nacogdoches, TX

The Ask an Expert forums are a great place for students to get assistance with hands-on science projects.

Your post, however, isn't related to an actual project. If your students have a specific question, definitely please post back here with the question(s). It is unclear what you are hoping Experts will provide in response to your post.

Thank you for your response. Their question was, "How was the universe created?"

Hi,

This particular question might be difficult to research with a science fair project at an elementary school level since it involves complicated physics and astronomy topics. However, if your students would like to look into science fair questions related to this general topic, I've included some links to projects they could practice writing well-defined questions for or actually conduct.

Additionally, if they would be interested in finding more information on the topic of the creation of the universe, here's some links to websites they might enjoy.

Hello,

It is very difficult to do a project on this, especially at the elementary level however to answer your question:

The creation of the universe is a very hotly debated topic and to this day intrigues scientists. The big bang theory is the leading explanation for the creation of the universe. This theory believes that the universe was created from a "singularity" which may have possibly been a black hole (some say it may have been an explosion). When this happened, the universe began expanding and expanding. To this day the universe is still expanding. The stars and planets were created through billions of years of collisions, cooling, heating, and gravitational attraction. Numerous complex calculations and observations are consistent with the big bang theory.

Hope this helps!
