Agar

Post by dolphins26 »

I need agar for my science project and I'm wondering if agar bought from regular supermarkets will also work to culture bacteria. Will they have different things such as sugar added to them that will impact my results? Or does it work the same? I could get it shipped, but a) it's quite expensive, and b) I'm on a race against time, and may not be able to wait for a shipment to come in!
I would really appreciate it if you could answer my question!
Thanks!

Hi dolphins26,

Thanks for asking. Could you please provide the list of contents for your "supermarket" agarose?
For bacterial plates you usually need LB agar. You can also purchase already poured LB agar plates. Have you considered this option?
