Absorption of Radiant Energy by Different Colors

Post by SenorUnicorn »

I am doing this experiment for my science fair project and I am planning to start this weekend. I was reading over the procedures and I need help understanding #7.

7.Now that you have the data, calculate the energy flow and the energy carried by the visible and infrared photons

I do not know how to calculate this. which equation would I use? I would really appreciate any help :!: :D :D

Hello SenorUnicorn,

I’m assuming that you are working on the project described here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ml#summary

Radiant energy absorption and emission is described by the Stefan-Boltzmann law. A good explanation of this and the equations for radiant energy can be found in the Background section of the project.

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... background

You’ll need to use equations 2, 4 and 5 to complete the calculations discussed in the project Procedure (point #7). Equation 2 is a bit complicated and there is an example (equation 3) so that you can see how to “plug in” the numbers. And there is a link to an online calculator for equation 2 if you’d rather use that.

I hope this helps and good luck with your project. Please post again if you have more questions.

Thank you so much!

I have now finished my experimentation and I am planning by display board. I have everything ready but I don't have a clue on what the title should be! I would like it to be short and catchy, but I'm open to any ideas. I would really appreciate any help!

Hi SenorUnicorn,

Congratulations on finishing your experiment!

Some short titles that come to mind are “Radiant Colors”, “Which Colors Are Most Energetic?” or “Colorful Energy”. Maybe these suggestions will inspire some more ideas.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.
