Hi ari561,

The independent variable is the thing that you change. The dependent variable is the thing that you measure that changes in response to the independent variables. Controlled variables are things that you keep the same in all of your experiments.

Take a look at the procedure for this project:

What are the two types of tests that you give? This is the thing that you are changing - it's your independent variable.

What do you measure? (Check out step 6 of the procedure.) This is what responds to your independent variable, so this is the dependent variable.

What things stay the same in all of your tests? (Hint - what do you make in steps 1 - 4 of the procedure that you will use in all of your tests?)

Post back with what you think the independent, dependent, and controlled variables are, and I can see if you are on the right track.
