Confusion about voltage when dealing with microbial fuel cells

Post by AlexAlexMad »

I am testing different inhibitors on E. Coli to see if they cause the bacteria to produce more electrons for microbial fuel cells (very basic summary of my project). However, for the test fuel cells voltage jumped from 2 mV to 450 mV in a matter of 20 minutes of adding more inhibitor. Yet, the current only increased from 6 to 14 micro amps. Does anyone know why the voltage could've jumped up so high without the current jumping up? Also the resistance is about 1 M ohms.
