Feasibility and possibility of disease eradication?

I am currently completing a project on disease eradication including genetic disorders and cancer. I am also looking at the limitations of using genetic engineering to perhaps cure all diseases and would like some thoughts and views from experts on this subject matter to use in my essay. What are your thoughts on eradication of disease and in terms of how far do you think humans are at the moment with genetic engineering? Also, do you think eradicating disease is a possibility and if so, how long do you think it will take until we can get to the point where disease will no longer exist on earth?
