qPCR contamination problem

Post by jrspecialist »

Hello Science Experts,

I have some problems with my PCR set up in my research lab. I'm getting amplification in my negative controls when setting up plates for q-PCR. I always input DNA last to minimize contamination. I use filter-tips and pipette at a 90 degree angle and a constant speed to avoid splashing, and always switch tips, and switch gloves whenever I suspect contamination (which is often). I wipe down my bench and pipettes with ethanol too, following the online tips from Google.

My question is why is it so easy for PCR contamination even with all these precautions? Thanks so much!

Happy holidays,

Hello jrspecialist,

The Science Buddies Ask the Expert forum is for students in grades K-12 who are doing science projects. There are other forums on the internet where your questions can be posted.

Thank you.
