Lifespan of blackholes

Post by coinjunky2 »

Hello,

How do you calcualte the lifespan of a blackhole? Is there a simple formula where I can imput the mass or something?

Thank you so much!

Hi coinjunky2,

The simple answer is 10,000 years for a particular type of blackhole. Please consult http://mckay.stickytech.com/Science/Tim ... index.html

For a more general answer, you may want to submit "what is the lifespan of a blackhole?" to answers.com

Note: answers seems also to find variants, such as "life span" and "black hole".
Cheers!

Thanks,

Well I was hoping that there is a way of knowing how long a black hole wil last depending on there size. I theory of the age of a blackhole is based on Hawking radiation. Maybe there is a way of calculating this?

Well I think I found what I've been looking for!

It's called black hole evaporation! there is a formula for it, but I can't post it here.

Thanks!
