Ah OK. That might make a little more sense. I had been envisioning something like the ArtBot where you just have a popsicle stick whirling around on the end of the motor - which, depending on which side the ball is on, gives you a 50/50 chance of actually hitting the ball in the right direction vs whacking it into your own goal. Please keep us posted on your progress.
