Hi, Welcome to science buddies!
I'd be happy to help you out, but you're going to need to be a little bit more specific about what exactly you want to do with your topic. What have you done so far? What are you interested in?

Here is some useful content on our website that may help you:

This link has some useful information on how to start working on your project:

And this one has some project ideas, if you haven't chosen something specific already:

Objective/ Problem: Why do I have blue eyes, my mother has brown eyes, my father had grey eyes and my grandfather had blues eyes?
Hypothesis: If my parents or grandparents have brown or blue eyes I may also have one of those eye colors. If a person as a dark skin, his or her eyes may also be dark, or if the skin color is light the person's eye color may also be dark.
Aim: Is to determine how several physical traits are inherited and which eye color is dominant in my family.
Introduction: Do you have the eye color as your mother or father? Do people say you look just like your grandfather when he was your age? When we look at members of a family it is easy to see that some physical characteristics or traits are shared.
Please add to this and help me with a simple experiment.

Hi,

Thanks for explaining what you what to do. This is an excellent and challenging idea for a 1st grade science project. I see that Ivyh has given you links to the basic information you need for doing your science project. Here is a project idea from the science buddies website that explains how traits like eye color are inherited.

http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-f ... p010.shtml

Here are a couple of websites on eye color. You should ask one of your parents to explain anything that you don’t understand.

http://suite101.com/article/understandi ... ion-a80336

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_color

Blue eyes are recessive, so you must have inherited a blue eyed gene from both of your parents. Do you know what color of eyes your great grandparents had? I would recommend finding out what color eyes all of your grandparents, uncles, aunts have, and make a chart like the one in the science buddies website. Read as much information as you can about how eye color is inherited. Then you will be able to explain why you have blue eyes, and explain how you inherited a blue eyed gene.

I think that doing the analysis for eye color will be enough work for a science project. The inheritance of skin color is very complex. If you wanted to include a second trait, perhaps you could use hair color.

Good luck to you. Please let us know if you have any questions.
