AFTER you've done your research and concluded your experiments, it is time to prepare for the science fair. Ask specific questions about preparing for a science fair, including how to set up your display board, how to prepare a presentation, etc. (Please post questions about selecting a project or conducting your experiment by posting in the appropriate "area of science" forum.)

We have lots of project ideas on this website. Environmental Science, Weather and Atmosphere, and Geology might be good places to look for an "Our Changing Planet" theme.
Here are our categories of project ideas: http://sciencebuddies.org/science-fair- ... deas.shtml
Since your child is in 1st grade, I would look at project ideas with a difficulty level of 1 or 2, although some 3 or 4 projects might be OK too.
We also have a project guide: http://sciencebuddies.org/science-fair- ... ndex.shtml
Look at "How to Do a Science Fair Project" on the left side.
We even have a page about display boards: http://sciencebuddies.org/science-fair- ... oard.shtml
Good luck and let us know if you have any questions!
