Eligibility

Any 7th - 12th grade student attending public, private or parochial school in Danville, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Sunol may apply.

SRC Requirements (What's SRC?)

See website for additional details and required forms. This is only a summary:

7th and 8th grades (Junior Division)

  • No experiments involving non-human vertebrate animals will be allowed except those in which the animals will be observed in a natural environment (such as a zoo or home). Your proposal should specifically describe the environment.
  • All projects involving human subjects must be approved by the TVSEF Scientific Review Committee (SRC/IRB) PRIOR to beginning experimentation.
  • Each human subject involved in a survey project must sign a completed and SRC/IRB approved Human Subject Form (TVSEF4). This signed form must be submitted to and kept by the sponsoring teacher.
  • No experiments directly involving the use of human/animal tissue or controlled substances are allowed.
  • No projects related to the use or study of guns, ammunition or development of other apparatus which could be associated with weaponry (e.g. spud guns) will be allowed.

9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades (Senior Division)

  • All projects involving human subjects, non-human vertebrates, pathogenic agents, controlled substances, recombinant DNA, and human/animal tissue must be approved by the TVSEF Scientific Review Committee (SRC/IRB) PRIOR to beginning experimentation.
  • An Human Subjects Form (TVSEF4) must be signed for each human subject involved in a project, including surveys only. This signed form must be submitted to and kept by the sponsoring teacher.
  • The use of alcohol, acid rain, insecticide, herbicide, and heavy metals in toxicity or behavioral studies on live vertebrates is prohibited.
  • Studies involving pathogenic agents are prohibited in a home environment, but specimens may be collected at home.
  • No projects related to the use or study of guns, ammunition or development of other apparatus which could be associated with weaponry (e.g. spud guns) will be allowed.
