Our Google Classroom Integration helps teachers add science assignments to Google Classroom. Don't let login issues slow you and your students down! Here's what you need to know about logging in.
Our Google Classroom Integration makes it easier than ever for teachers to assign and manage science and engineering assignments and projects with Google Classroom and Science Buddies—as long as everyone can get logged in. We have worked to make logging in at Science Buddies as easy as possible for Google Classroom users, and we definitely don't want "I couldn't get logged in" to be the digital classroom equivalent to "the dog ate my homework"! But we know the introduction of Google Classroom Integration may have made things a bit confusing for some users.
In an effort to ensure that your students don't run into a frustrating stumbling block trying to complete their Google Classroom assignments at Science Buddies, we want to walk through the login process. There are a few key steps for students (and teachers) to understand to help streamline the process so that time can be spent on the assignments and science learning rather than on the logistics of logging in.
Below, we cover the login process for Google Classroom students visiting Science Buddies for the first-time and for Google Classroom students returning to Science Buddies.
The most important thing to note is that Google Classroom students will always need to choose the Log in with Google Classroom option and identify themselves as students when logging in.
Logging in at Science Buddies with Google Classroom (for students who have a Science Buddies account)
After logging in at Science Buddies the very first time with Google Classroom and setting up a Science Buddies account (if they didn't already have one), students will log in on subsequent visits to Science Buddies either by following a link from a Google Classroom assignment or by using the "Log in with Google Classroom" option at Science Buddies.
From Google Classroom:
From Science Buddies:
(Note: Logging in from the Science Buddies website will not take a student to a specific Google Classroom assignment unless they are already on a page that has been assigned. But it is important that students understand that any time they login at Science Buddies, they will need to login using Google Classroom.)
After a student clicks the "Student" button, the student will be asked to enter the Google Classroom login information:
If the student started the login process from a Google Classroom assignment (or directly on the assigned page at Science Buddies), once successfully logged in, the student will see the assignment information box (and "Turn In" button) on the Science Buddies site and be ready to move forward completing the assignment.
Logging in at Science Buddies for the Very First Time as a Google Classroom Student
If your student is logging in at Science Buddies for the first time, after following the steps above to log in as a Google Classroom student:
- The student will be prompted to accept some basic permissions that allow Science Buddies to connect to the Google Classroom account. (For more information about the permissions required for Google Classroom Integration, see our FAQ.)
- Once these permissions are accepted, the student will be prompted to create a Science Buddies account. (Note: the email address must be the same one used for Google Classroom.)
- Once the account has been created, the student will use the "Log in with Google Classroom" button when he or she returns to Science Buddies. (See the steps and screenshots above.)
Important Reminder—Always Sign in with Google Classroom
The most important reminder for students is that they need to always use the "Log in with Google Classroom" button to sign in. Google Classroom students are not able to log in using the Science Buddies login boxes. This is a potential source of confusion for students.
To log in, Google Classroom students must start from Google Classroom or click the "Log in with Google Classroom" button at Science Buddies and then select the "Student" button and enter their Google Classroom account information.
If a student has forgotten the password for the Google Classroom account, the student can retrieve it using Google's lost password tool. (Google Classroom students who use the Science Buddies tool to retrieve their account information will receive an email showing their user name, but the password information will be blank. Instead, they will be reminded that they need to log in with using the Google Classroom button and entering their Google Classroom information.)
