Immunotherapy and diabetes: A game of hide and seek?

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are emerging as an effective treatment for certain cancers, but in rare cases can cause autoimmune diseases. Researchers at Osaka University explored a unique case of a patient with cancer whose pancreas was removed, and who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (an autoimmune disease) after receiving ICIs. The researchers stained tissue samples from the pancreas, allowing them to better understand the link between checkpoint inhibitors and type 1 diabetes. Read more
