Ask an Expert: Making Distilled Water

Hummm...my instinct would be no (I couldn't think of an easy/saft way to boil the water, collect the steam, and re-condense the vapor), but I did a google search just now and you can buy small-sized water distillers online (cost up to a few hundred bucks). I think my instinct is probably right, or else these guys wouldn't be selling their equipment for this kind of money. I am also not sure if you can buy DI water easily in stores. Keep in mind that de-ionized water is different from distilled water (you can google to see what I mean). If you know (or your parents/relatives/friends know) someone who works in a bio or chem lab, then chances are, you are in luck. Why don't you try your science teacher and see what he/she suggests (maybe you can even get some from your teacher .
