Hi, I was just wondering if it is possible to send electricity BACK through a wall outlet and into the meter. If so, what kind of equipment is needed to make this work?

Hi Kevin,
Of course it's not possible, since at first blush, one could manipulate your electrical bill.
On the other hand, I don’t know what protection is available on installed meters. You may be onto something, since there is a new device: Anti-theft electric meter (United States Patent 4327324,
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4327324.html).
Of course, you could do tests on installed meters. But, I don't think that's advisable, since I don't know what trouble one could get into from the power company.
Perhaps others have additional information.

Excuse me David but this is precisely what some solar and wind powered systems do. Of course it is technically possible.
The real question is it acceptable to the power company that you do so? Whether a power company is required to accept this generation will depend upon the legal jurisdiction.
In any case, specialized disconnect equipment is mandated for public safety and protection of the power grid and power company personnel. These are usually covered by the local code enforcement jurisdiction and permits are required to do this.
Failure to follow the appropriate permit and inspection process will likely result in condemnation of your building and some huge fines.

Craig,
I thought solar and wind powered systems need to be connected to the service panel. My question was whether it is possible to send electricity through a normal wall outlet, instead of opening up the service panel and going through all of that hassle.

This has ceased to be a "science" question so it is out of bounds for this site. My previous reply stated:
