ideas on how to make a plinian eruption

my daughter picked Mt. Vesuvius as her school project. The eruption has to be accurate. I am looking for safe ideas on how to make that happen. I've only found one video on YouTube. I'm not sure the school would be happy with a smoke bomb! :D

As it seems like the main result is smoke, you could maybe try adding some dry ice to water. You can normally get some from ice cream places. Just be sure you don't handle it with bare hands as it is really, really cold and can cause frost bite.

Hello there,

Baking soda and vinegar is also another common way that people use for volcano projects. It would probably smell though, but it's very simple!
