Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hi There!

I have a question to ask about the independent variable and the unit of measurement. Is the unit of measurement (cm, mm, Ml, mg) etc part of the independent variable? For example, the independent variable is on a broken line graph is for Monthly Precipitation in Vancouver in mm. Is the "mm" part a part of the independent variable or are they two separate things? Does the definition of independent variable include the unit of measurement too?
