research for 2nd grader

Post by melsmom »

My son is in 2nd grade. He did his project on which salt used for melting ice will make metal rust faster. We are having trouble finding background information that he can understand. Are there any websites or books for younger children?
Thanks

Hi,

Second grade is a bit early to be studying chemistry, but here is a website that talks about second grade level experiments with rust:

You might find some answers burried in this page that are appropriate, though the answers are mostly for fifth to 12th grade students:

I think your best bet at getting a good reaource is to go talk to the children’s librarian at your local public library. There are a lot of good children’s science books, but I am unfortunately not up to date on them. Please encourage and support your young student- my fascination with chemistry started about fourth or fifth grade and turned into a lifelong passion, a source of never ending fun and fascination. You may be raising a great scientist to be!

Best regards,
