Hi!

I'm glad that Science Buddies has been a help to you during your science project! Learning how to present data is actually a very important process that is often overlooked. Let's go over some graph types and what they're best used for!

Line Graphs - Since line graphs include different plots of data connected to each other, they are best used for time-dependent data. For example, if we were testing how tall a plant was over a few days, a line graph would make it easier to see the growth when compared to a bar graph!

Bar Graph - Bar Graphs are good for representing data that is not time-dependent! It is one of the most commonly used graphs. It is best used for groups of data that are measured using the same metric.

Pie Charts - As you may already know, pie charts are better when you have surveys or other data that uses percentages that in total add up to 1. It helps show the prevalence of specific things across a population.

There are also things like scatter plots and barcode plots and many more! As you get more specialized data, more specialized plots are needed. For the project you linked, step 4 states to present the data in a bar graph form!

Hope this helps!

Thanks, probiotics
