Oil Spill Experiment_ Hypothesis

Post by Stipelkovich »

Would a good hypothesis for an oil spill experiment be : Using an absorbent material will be a more effective way to clean up an oil spill than using a detergent? My son is going to test different materials to see which one absorbs more of the oil from the water. Looking for a better way to state hypothesis.

Dear Stipelkovich,

There is an article called "A Strong Hypothesis" on Science Buddies that might be helpful. It gives you the format of a hypothesis, tips on how to write a strong hypothesis, and examples of good and poor hypotheses. The link to the article is https://www.sciencebuddies.org/blog/a-strong-hypothesis .

I hope this helps you and your son to write a better hypothesis. Please let me know if you have any questions.
