Post by yayakolo »

Hi I'm a year 9 student and an a bit stuck in my homework I have a picture of the 23 pairs of chromosomes in a human cheek cell. The question reads each of the chromosomes labelled number 22 contain about 100 genes. Would you expect to find more less or the same amount of genes in a chromosome like number 1. It then asks me to explain my answer any help tips advice would be really great thanks

Hi yayakolo,

Thanks for posting!

If your homework provides a picture of all chromosomes, you can notice that some are larger than others. This tell you that not all chromosomes contain the same amount of DNA; therefore, they contain different amount of genes.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
