How to hydrolize paper? and how can i know when the paper has undergone hydrolysis?

Paper can be hydrolyzed by treatment with dilute acid. When the paper breaks down into fibers you will know it is hydrolyzed. You can do an online search for 'acid hydrolysis of paper' and find more information about it. Here's one example:
