Rivers
Why is a river described as "rising"? A river doesn't rise, it falls. If the source is in the mountains, it falls from there to the sea or wherever it ends, following the path of least resistance. Why describe it as doing the opposite to what it actually does?

Hello Parent,
The Science Buddies Ask the Expert forums are for students in grades K-12 who need help with their science projects. If you are a student and you are doing a science project, please provide more details about your project including the hypotheses you plan to test and how you will design experiments to test your hypotheses. If you are not a student in grades K-12, there are other places on the web where your questions will be more appropriate. Thank you.
