S. Epidermis medium

Post by Shield07 »

Does S. Epidermis grow on normal LB agar plates? If not, what common type of solid medium would you recommend? Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Science Buddies,
S. epidermidis will likely grow on LB agar plates (for some possible procedures relating to growth of S. epidermidis using LB agar plates, see https://www.fairfield.edu/media/fairfie ... 1_2013.pdf and https://academic.oup.com/jac/article-pd ... dkg331.pdf). You could also use mannitol salt agar, as it is selective for the staphylococcus species, as well as trypticase soy agar, because it accommodates facultative anaerobes like S. epidermidis.

I hope this helped! Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
