why does it take a longer time for 3 alkalizer tablets to dissolve in 1 cup of water compared to 1 alkalizer tablet dissolving in 1 cup of water?

Hello,

The Ask an Expert forums are designed for students working on science projects, experiments, or activities. If this question is tied to a particular project you have, feel free to let us know with more details so that we can help you through the process.

Additionally, this is the Life, Earth, and Social Sciences subforum—the Physical Science subforum would be more suited for a chemistry-related question like this one.

Otherwise, for what it's worth:
Alka tablets dissolving in water, or anything dissolving in general, happens through interactions between molecules of solvent (water) and solute (tablet). "Dissolving" happens as solvent particles bump into and surround solute particles, essentially turning a big solid tablet into many tiny particles floating in the water. If there's overall more solute for the solvent to interact with, it's naturally going to take longer for all of it to dissolve.

Because the 3 alkaline capsules had less contact area than 1 alkaline tablet. so it melts more slowly.
