Soil Erosion Experiment URGENT question!!!

Post by zmariano »

In the science buddies experiment "Can plants stop soil erosion?", what would be the controlled variables? Would the radish seeds be included in the controlled variables category or would that fall under the independent variable (sowing seeds)?

Hello!

The independent variable in a science experiment is the variable you manipulate to observe what effect it has on the dependent variable. In this experiment you have two experimental groups: the soil with seeds and the soil without seeds. Adding seeds to the soil in some of the bread pans is the variable that you're changing, making this the independent variable.

The controlled variables are all the variables that you keep exactly the same between the two experimental groups. Some examples would be the brand of bread pan that you're using, how much soil you add, how much sunlight you expose the plants to, etc.

I hope this helps!
