Hi Paige!
Cognitive psychology is an extremely broad topic. In addition, a simple google search would turn up numerous results. Here are a couple of links which came up:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_psychology
http://psych.athabascau.ca/html/aupr/cognitive.shtml
Also, for future reference, please do not expect an immediate reply, although the experts will try to answer your questions as soon as possible. Thanks, good luck!

Thank you so much! I'm sorta new to this whole thing and I sent out an e-mail a couple of days ago but it didn't work. So I had to use my dad's computer instead.

cognitive psychology and Stroop effect

Hi Paige,

I'm a cognitive scientist, which means that I'm interested in how cognitive psychology relates to neuroscience, anthropology, philosophy, linguistics, Artificial Intelligence -- in fact, any discipline that helps us understand the nature of human knowledge, learning, and behavior. Some people might distinguish between "social psychology" and "cognitive psychology," but today these fields are blending more and more together as we learn that cognition can't be understood very well apart from the environments in which behavior occurs.

As a example, I just reviewed a paper where the university researchers used the Stroop effect test (and many other tests) to understand how Parkinson's disease affected cognition. That's a good example of cognitive psychology applied to medicine. The researchers are trying to understand how these tests relate to the effect of Parkinson's on the brain. I suggested that they also consider how such tests relate to everyday abilities.

Let me know if I can help in your project.

links for Cognitive Science

Hi Paige,

If you're interested to learn more about Cognitive Science, look at the society's web site -- http://www.cognitivesciencesociety.org/ or this entry in an online encylopedia -- http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/cognitive-science/

These both come up from searching Google.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you more about the paper I reviewed because reviews are confidential (this is especially important when the scientists have an unusual discovery that should not be publicized until it has been peer-reviewed). If you were another medical researcher, I would probably contact the authors to ask they if they wanted to share their work with you at this time. But we have a somewhat different situation here! :)

However, you can learn about this topic by searching the web for "Stroop Effect diagnostic value." The top reference found in Google relates the Stroop Effect to anxiety.
