Hello! I am doing a science fair related to the propagation of waves. Well, anyways I am posting since I don't know how I should measure the sound waves under water. My science fair is about how can different types of temperatures of water affect the propagation of waves. I am thinking of making a tank but I think I won't have time. And also I don't know with what I should measure the sound waves. It has to be:
1.) Waterproof
2.) Simple to make a graph
3.) And has to leave data (Time and speed)

Re: Propagation of Waves
Hello maymayScience,
There's a Science Buddies project about the effect of water depth on wave velocity described here:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ty#summary
This project may be of interest as described or you might want to modify it so that you investigate water temperature effects instead of depth.
Measuring the speed of sound through water at different temperatures would be another interesting project. You might be able to use smartphones to make the measurements. The following link describes how this works, but you'd need to find a way to adapt the procedure for measurements in water.
https://arxiv.org/pdf/1804.06243.pdf
I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.
