Hydroelectricity small scale project

I need help with knowing how a hydroelectric turbine works if you are using copper and magnets. This is a science fair project that is due on january 25th. I just need to know the science behind it because my teacher just told me to construct the turbine. Reply back as soon as possible. Thank you.
