JSHS project, Tesla Coils

Post by eripa3629 »

Hi!! I have a general idea of what i want to do with my JSHS(Junior Science Humanities Stemposia) project. I really want to work with Tesla coils. problem is that Im not quite sure what exactly I should do with them for my experiment. I was thinking about dealing with sounds, Im just not quite sure what else ! should work with so its not a 1/2 baked idea.

Hi eripa3629,

It's usually easier to start with a question rather than a device. Unfortunately there are not many applications for a Tesla coil aside from entertainment or demonstration, but if you have access to one I can understand the desire to incorporate it.

This site does contain several project ideas regarding electromagnetism, for example:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... tic-fields

or

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... mple-motor

Otherwise, you'll need to get creative and maybe consider different methods of audio analysis (frequency, counts, etc.) while being careful not to zap yourself!

Good luck,

-John
