Ocean Currents Project

Post by NathanielBee »

Hello again! Our chemistry class is having us do a project on energy in earth's systems, and our group chose to look at ocean currents: how they form, how it's sustained, some possible threats to ecosystems from these currents, and how pollutants effect the ocean. We've been doing a lot of research, but we can't really seem to find any information on how ocean currents are sustained. The best answer we could find was that wind currents caused by fluxes of air pressure create a large air current called the thermohaline conveyor belt. We aren't really sure about how the energy from the air currents relate to the energy in movement of water in the ocean. Could you explain in further detail how all of the systems come together, or help set us on the right track of what to research? Thanks! Sincerely, Nate, 10th grader.

Hi Nate - I am sorry you haven't received a reply about your ocean currents project.

Have you read the background information for this related project at Science Buddies? https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... background

I would recommend reading that information and following the links in the bibliography for additional research.
