Circular Halo

Post by c343eb2df7e14f40818e1f404e1d7b17 »

Today, in our city Shimoga - (Karnataka, India), We observed a ring like structure around sun (which was in the colour of rainbow) - which we later came to know called as CIRCULAR HALO and we were also informed that it was due to the small ice crystals in the clouds acting as the prism..

My question is that, when we see a rainbow - we see it in a particular direction from the sun, but why this (circular halo) can be seen around the sun ?? And why can't we see a normal rainbow like that ?

Hi,

This forum is intended for students, parents, and teachers working on K-12 science projects. If your question is related to a science project, please post some details such as your hypothesis, research question or experimental plan. If you are looking for help with homework or general science discussions there are other sites that should be able to answer your question.
