Water to Fuel to Water.

Post by luispeca »

Hello.
I´m tryng to do the Water to Fuel to Water experiment.
Here in Portugal is not so easy to find nickel eletrodes. Is it possible to use other eletrodes, like steel plates, or any other metal like zinc?

Hi luispeca,

I'm assuming that you're working on the project described here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ll#summary

As described in the project procedure, the cobalt catalyst electroplates on the nickel electrode surface. This process may not work as well (or at all) with other electrodes like steel or zinc. It would be best to use the nickel electrodes recommended in the project procedure.

According to the project materials list nickel strips are available from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/SEOH-Electrode-N ... ebuddie-20

Similar nickel electrodes are also available here:

https://sciencekitstore.com/nickel-elec ... gIc2fD_BwE

If it's not possible to order them from one of these sources and have them shipped to you, perhaps you could find similar nickel strips at a laboratory or school supplier in Portugal.

I hope this helps and good luck with your project. Please post again if you have more questions.

A. Norman
