Light barrier

Postby Theoreticalphysicist23 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 5:32 am

This is a question I really need an answer to
If we go faster than sound we break the sound barrier, so just like this if we go faster than light will we break something that will be called light barrier?

Hi Theoreticalphysicist23,

While it is possible for something to travel faster than the speed of sound, the same can't be said with the speed of light. According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it is essentially impossible for an object to travel at or faster than the speed of light; therefore, something cannot break any sort of "light barrier" as it can with the sound barrier.

Here are a few science articles that will help you develop a clearer understanding as to why an object can't travel at or above the speed of light:

- ... of%20light

- ... ght-speed/

I hope this answers your question. Please note that the purpose of this website is to help students, their teachers, and their parents with their science projects. There are several other websites better suited to help you with these kinds of questions.
