Hi I’m a fifth grade teacher and I would like to try the project “From Trash to Gas: Biomass Energy.” Will horse manure work for this experiment or only cow?
Thanks!

Dear Thovish,

I think that horse manure will work for this experiment because a horse eats a type of biomass. It is common for horses to eat grass or hay, which are both considered to be types of biomass. According to “From Trash to Gas: Biomass Energy”, "The cows eat a type of biomass (grass or hay) and turn it into the biogas, methane, in their digestive tracts." Since horses and cows share a similar diet, horse manure should be a good alternative to cow manure. However, cows and horses might not consume the same amount of grass or hay daily. Therefore, this might impact your results.

I hope that the experiment will be a success! If you have any questions, please let me know.
