Guidance Needed~!~!

Ask specific questions about preparing for a science fair, such as: judging, how to set up your display board, preparing a presentation, preparing for questions...

Guidance Needed~!~!

Post by BeSaN »

Hello,
i've been looking for a good science fair projest for a long time now, and i think ive figured out what i want to do, but cant seem to come up with a independant and dependant variable.
Im a rising sophmore and really interested in Genetics.
I was hoping i could do something using BLAST and look at the proteins of different species compared to humans, and their functions, and then look at eveolutionary relationships, i think im almost there, and i have to fill out my proposal by the end of the summer, and need a little bit of guidance. My whole project wont be due till January, so ill have alot of time. Ill appreciate any help possible.
thnx a bunch

Hi BeSaN!

Here are some resources you can try:

Off the main Science Buddies webpage, https://www.sciencebuddies.org , there are:
1. Topic Selection Wizard
2. How to Do a Science Fair Project
3. "Other resources"

In addition:
4. You can look at my 7/7/2005 posting on "Search Sites" in the "Ask an Expert" -> Physical Science and Math forum.
Cheers!

Thanxs for ur help, but that wasnt really my concern.
I'm wondering if theres any way i can take wat im interested in and change it into an experiment...where im actually testing the effect of ..... on ......?
So far ive had no luck actually targeting my independant and dependant variables. And is using a software enough for a science fair project? Is there any way I can actually getr a little more hands on.
UGH, this is really confusing.
well, please reply if u have any ideas. :?

ps. tryed using tips...still no help

Hi BeSaN!

I can see where my response wasn't helpful or specic enough.

Hopefully, the material below will help:

I would encourage you to try the Topic Selection Wizard,
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentorin ... opic.shtml , in two ways:

1. You can try working BLAST into the Topic Selection Wizard, or
2. Seeing if the Topic Selection Wizard has other ideas (say you need a topic, and ask the Topic Selection Wizard to suggest one.)

Either way, you would make sure to come up with a project that is preselected as a "good" project.

Other resources are:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentorin ... thod.shtml for a general discuscusion of the "how to" for a science fair. Particularly see the links on left, which are a highly useful, and

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentorin ... bles.shtml for a specific disciscussion on variables (independent and dependent).

I don't know if software is "good" project. I'll post that question as a new topic, and hopefully someone will see it. Before I do that, I need to more details (there are quite a large number of topics that fall under "software.")

Please buzz back if I haven't answered your questions.

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. My fault.
Cheers!

Dave
