MagLev Trains

Can MagLev trains help reduce the need for truck drivers, relieving pressure on cargo transportation, allowing for greater movement of goods?

Hello,

Magnetic levitation trains are very interesting. Is your question related to a science fair project? Can you tell us a bit more about your project and how we can help you? ScienceBuddies is for helping students with science fair projects.

I am in a group and we are doing a science project about cargo and we need advice from an expert. We wanted to see if a MagLev train could carry cargo and help out with the congestion at ports and bring the cargo to it destination at hub or sorting plants.

We have tried repolarizing magnetc strips over and over again with a large nemodium magnet. Our measurements are correct on tape and plastic shield positions. What else should we do?

Are you working on this project here?

To learn more about your question related to moving cargo and helping out with congestion at ports I would suggest doing some research on Maglev trains to learn how much cargo or weight they can carry as well as their maximum speed. You could research the same information for regular semi trucks and compare how efficient the train is versus trucks. Also, the train only needs one driver (usually called an engineer or conductor) for a large load and you would need many truck drivers to move the same cargo.
