Judge Questions Middle School

Post by Chili »

Can someone tell me what kind of questions are asked of middle school students from judges? Or, do they just want them to elaborate on their presentation board at this age? Thanks!

The type of questions asked of a middle schooler really depends on the fair--the type of question asked at a school fair will be vastly different from that asked at the state fair.

If you can tell my what types of fairs your child will be entering, I will be better able to answer your question.

In my experience, judges will usually ask what your child did, what your child found out, why what your child observed happened, and why your child's project is important.

Some classic questions are: "What problems did you run into doing this experiment?" "Who helped you with your project?" "What would you do different if you did your project again?" and "How would you continue your project/where do you want to go from here?"

Terik has covered most of the basic types of questions. I would add to that "Why did you choose this project?" and "What was the most difficult part of this project?"
Generally the judge is assessing whether the child did the project themselves and understood what the general point of it was.
