Hello. I decided to do this project and i found it confusing, I really dont get the basic concept from it . Can someone please give me a quick summary on what the project is dealing with. Can someone answer what is an over-expressed gene and what is an under-expressed gene? How should i start my project? I have this hypothesis but dont know how to start it goes like this; Is there a difference in gene expression of certain genes between cancer and normal tissue. Can someone please help me ,Thank you Please reply ASAP

Hi,

Welcome to Science Buddies! This is an advanced and very challenging project:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p011.shtml

In this project, you will be following the step-by-step directions and searching the CGAP website to compare gene expression in normal and cancerous pancreatic tissue. The objective of the project is to identify genes that may be involved in developing cancer.

Gene expression is the process of transcribing information coded in DNA to produce a functional protein or RNA. In the case of the pancreas, the gene product could be insulin. In cancer, some genes may be overexpressed, or producing too much of the gene product. In other cancers, gene expression may be

You do need to try to understand this project before you proceed. Have you done an internet search on the terms and concepts? You can also check out the links on the bibliography on the bottom of the page; you can find it by clicking on the “Background “tab.

Please post again if you need more help.

Hi rainerpac,

Unfortunately, SAGE Genie is currently not functioning, so the Cancer Genome Anatomy Project is not a viable project at this time.

Here are some alternative Science Buddies projects to consider:

You can also search through other project ideas on the Science Buddies website to find something that suits your interests.
