HELP With:The effects of change in light to bioluminescence

Hi Experts,

I am conducting the Bioluminescense: Investigating Glow-in-the-Dark Dinoflagellates experiment. I have a question about taking care of the Dinoflagellates. Should I open the lids on their test tubes? If so, for how long each day? I have had them with the lids closed for two days now, but they are still alive. They are glowing every night but only for a few seconds after I slightly shake them. Will the lid closed kill them?

Thanks
-Chris

Hi Chris,

Welcome to Science Buddies!

I recommend you to review all the materials and methods for your project which can be found at https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure.

Check if you loosened the cabs of the tubes when the cell culture arrived. Your test tubes should be separately labeled as either light, dark, or light/dark.
For the light/dark group, you should wrap them with aluminum foil in the morning, and unwrap the foil in the evening.

For more details, please check out the link!
