I was wondering if any one knew any potential projects focused on the environment and if static electricity could be contained for energy use.

Hi,
Those are pretty broad areas to be looking at for a project. For the first subject, the environment, I would suggest that you take the Scibuddies survey of personal preferences for a project:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ndaproject
This should give you a clearer idea of specific areas that you personally are stimulated by and would like to see develop into a science project.
Your second idea is intriguing and with physics and materials science changing so rapidly, I don’t discount the possibility of anything. I live in the lightning capital of the world (Florida) and I have often thought how great it would be if we could somehow collect lightning as we do rainwater. Storage is obviously the problem. It is possible to store a static charge, but then you have to turn it into a moving charge for energy use and it tends to discharge all at once—like the lightning bolts that came off Tesla’s static generator!
I would do some googling of this idea. Maybe there is somebody working on it and you can figure out a way to work it into a science project.
Good luck!
