DIY Faraday cage

I need to build a large Faraday cage for the science fair. Can someone let me know if I can use the white painted steel storage cubes that we already have in my house? We could bind the panels together more firmly with wire, but are the holes too big? Does it matter that they're painted? The gaps in between the wires are about 1 inch. Thanks!

Hello,
I'm not sure if you would be able to use them because I'm not sure what they look like. Could you tell us how wide the holes are?----normally, the closer the holes, the more likely your Faraday cage will work. You might be able to fix this buy purchasing some metal mesh and connecting it to the sides of the box to cover the holes, but I've never tried to do that before, so I can't be sure that it will work. Also, are they just painted white, or are they coated with white rubber?---if they're coated with white rubber, it definitely shouldn't work.
I hope this helps!
