I am trying to start a science project with the topic above.
Can anyone guide me through on where to start?

Sounds like a very interesting topic! Crickets and supplies for the crickets should be available at most pet stores since they are generally used as "food" for other pets. A quick google seach on crickets should give you some background info. Here is a link to a science buddies project looking at the effect of temperature on crickets and this should help you on what additional materials you will need along with how to go about recording your data on chirping.

Obviously your project is a bit different then the one in the link but the set up should be similar. There will absolutely be a few things that you need to control for. Since temperature can effect crickets be sure to determine what the best ambient temperature will be and make sure that your temperature stays the same each time you test. I would also recommend recording the temperature each time to make sure that is not a factor. You will also want to control for background noise and be sure to do your testing at the same time each day since I would have to think that light and time of day effects crickets chirping.
Good luck and write back if you have more questions
