I am doing a project on whether gender affects blood pressure. my indeendent variables are the test subjects age and how many test subjects there are. if any one can provide me with a dependent and controlled variable that would be great!

Hello andre12567,

Welcome to Science Buddies! You have an interesting question. I think this Science Buddies project (which looks at blood pressure and age) will help you organize your project: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... d+pressure

Here is some information to help you understand your variables: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... bles.shtml

Note that the independent variable is the one that you (the scientist) change, or the one that you are comparing to see if it causes a change in your other variable. The dependent variable is the one that depends on your independent variable; in other words, the dependent variable is the one you measure.

For the question you first proposed, gender would be the independent variable and blood pressure would be the dependent variable. The number of test subjects is not a variable, but part of your experimental design. The age of the test subjects could be another independent variable (in addition to gender) that you study.

Possible controlled variables for your study could be the time of day at which you take the blood pressure, how you take the measurements, etc.

I hope this helps you get started. Please post again (in this same thread) if you have more questions.
