Hi,
I am not sure about books on the topic, but I found many websites when I used google to search "dog respiration rate". For example:
http://bluepearlvet.com/monitoring-your ... e-at-home/
http://www.idexx.com/pubwebresources/pd ... g-rate.pdf
http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/clinsci/ ... /vital.htm
Does that help answer your question?
Let me know if I can help you further
Tonya

Hello sbroughton,
Hello, what project are you doing? Is this it:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure. Please look at this project under "background" to find the resources that they suggest. I included the Vetmed link below.
Tonya has given you some great suggestions. Have you gone to the library and looked up books/ articles/ or information about dogs? There are some great magazine articles out there, including some medical ones that could give you more technical information. But since this is a 4th grade project, I'm not sure how much research you will need to do. I used to be a Veterinary Technician, and most of the dogs have a respiration rate of between 15-30 beats per minute. Of course that is a resting rate, and it varies on the breed/ size of the dog and also the state of health.
Here are some more articles that may help you:
This video shows how to calculate the rate of breath with a dog:

Also, feel free to call a local Veterinarian for any questions you might have, you can tell him/her it's for a science fair project! Please post here and let us know if we can further help you. Good luck!
