Science Buddies: "Ask an Expert"

Hello, my partner and I have decided to do a science fair project on counterfeit money. We would like to find answers to the following questions.
1. How can we improve security features on Canadian bills?
2. How are criminals surpassing these security features?
3. How do the new Canadian bills differ from the old ones?

You'll also need to learn about how counterfeit money is detected, both by the banks and normal people. For example, it might be fine to have microscopic writing on the money, but if the cashier at a store can't tell that it's not real when accepting money, then what good is that? For example, the "feel" of the paper is very important in US money (I don't know about Canadian) because our bills are actually a mix of linen (a type of cloth) and paper. So if someone makes a counterfeit using normal paper, it won't "feel" right to someone accepting it.

Security AND Design are both important elements of security. I learned that money today can be made of plastic (vs. fabric) or polymers. Puts new meaning to the phrase "using plastic" for buying lunch.
