Why is the kinetic and potential energy equal after launch?

everett99 - Because it's the law! The 'Law of Conservation of Energy". Do some research on this subject and you will find, simply stated, that the total amount of energy of an isolated system cannot change. It can transform from potential to kinetic, or through other permutations, but energy isn't created, diminished, destroyed or lost. It just changes it's form. Total amount of energy is the same during an event such as you described, the launch of some sort of projectile. Potential energy is converted to kinetic energy, but the sum of the total energy, in it's various forms, is the same.
