I am doing a research paper, poster board, and experiment on a Leyden jar. Can you tell me how i could write about a leyden jar in a research paper?

What exactly are you experimenting with with your Leyden jar? That might help us help you further. But for now, check out our page on writing a research paper, and see if it's any help. Here's the link: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... aper.shtml

I hope this helps!

4Jesus - You can write about your experiment. What your hypothesis was, what your procedure was, your data measurements, whether you proved your hypothesis. You can also explain what a Leyden jar is. The attractions of opposite charges. Dielectrics and their properties. Surface area of the electrodes and how it affects energy stored. Calculating energy stored. The effect of the dielectric constant and thickness (separation) of the electrodes etc. Uses of capacitors to store energy. Limitations. Any number of things that will add to and support your experiment and findings are good subject matter in your research paper. Good luck.

Could you give me some good websites on information about how the surface area of the electrodes affects the working of a leyden jar?

I am having a hard time finding information on how the surface area of the electrodes might affect a Leyden jar and also the limitations of a leyden jar. My research paper is due on Fri. so could you get back to me soon with some websites that have good information for me? That would be great! For you're info, I have 1 page to 1 1/2 pages to do on my research paper yet until I am finished.

The due date for this research paper is wrong in my status information. The due date for the research paper I am doing is on Jan. 17 so I need help soon!! Could u please get back to me with some websites that have info on "how will the surface area of electrodes affect the workings of a leyden jar" and "the limitations of a leyden jar" I was having trouble finding info on the internet about these two subjects.

Help!!!!!!!

4Jesus - Do some research on capacitor basics. You will see that the absolute value oc capacitance is a function of the area of your parallel electrodes (twice the area, twice the capacitance), the spacing of the electrodes (square law relationship) and the dielectric constant (properties of the insulator, in this case, glass). The Leyden jar is such an historic element, you will find better electrical understanding in sites that discuss capacitors.

4Jesus: We noticed you had two different threads going for your topic of Leyden Jars. We merged the two threads together. Please only post one thread in one forum for your project, so that we can best help you.

Thanks for using Science Buddies, and good luck with your project!
