Need Help Clarifying Data on Ocean Acidification

Hi,
Finished Project got some good data. I used 4 jars with varying phs. Measured everyday for a month. The control jar had the biggest drop in ph going from 8.1 to 7.3. The other jars had lower starting phs and ended with phs of 7.1 . Is the reason for the difference in change have to do with the H ion concentration in the volume of water in the jars? Meaning the jar with 8.1 had less H ion concentration to begin with and had more room for change vs then ones that started with lower ph dropping only a few points as the concentration was already higher? Any help with clarification would be appreciated.

Hi Oceanman,

Which project are you doing? The only one on ocean acidification that I know of at Scibuddies is this one https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p013.shtml

There is no measurement of pH there, just weighing crab shells after they have sat in acidified seawater.

I might be able to help you if you provide more information.

Hi Oceanman,

I also agree with SciB that if you could provide a little more information about your main question, what your hypothesis is, and the experimental procedure you've set up to test this hypothesis, we can better help you troubleshoot and figure out what happened with your experiments! Are you doing a project from Science Buddies, or is this something you've come up with on your own?

Best,
